As growing numbers of patients with CHD now survive into adulthood, the model of pediatric cardiology care has changed. Management strategies have evolved from a focus on isolated inpatient procedures to a lifelong, interdisciplinary approach that spans decades. Increasingly complex patients require care from cardiac specialists from fetal diagnosis through adulthood, as well as from colleagues in surgery, nursing, mental health, genetics and many more. Dialogue is necessary between fetal, inpatient and outpatient cardiologists to improve current counseling as well as inform immediate and long-term treatment strategies. In addition, as the health care delivery system evolves, a more integrated approach between administrators, third party payers, hospitals and practices is necessary. With this comprehensive, collaborative and longitudinal approach in mind, The Cardiac Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia presents its 16th Annual Postgraduate Course in Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Disease. The faculty will present more than 300 talks in six plenary sessions, 44 breakout sessions and six pre-conferences, covering all areas necessary for comprehensive care of neonates, children and young adults with cardiovascular disease.
