“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.”  ~ Maya Angelou

The PCICS continues to thrive and find ways to serve our community through a multitude of education and training initiatives. The high quality of these initiatives has had the added benefit of generating revenue for the society. As I stated in my last message, while we still largely remain a society that relies on our Annual Meetings to fund our organizational efforts, it is efforts like these that open the door to new avenues of financial growth and development.

However, despite a record-breaking annual conference in Miami in December 2018, the society still struggles to consistently generate enough revenue to offset its expenses. It goes without saying that the society cannot allow this to continue without risk of ruin. To this end, I formed an Ad Hoc Financial Committee to examine our financial health and identify our strengths and opportunities for improvement. After our initial meeting, we felt a broader representation from the membership was warranted. Thus, you will be receiving an e-mail asking for volunteers to join the committee and help develop a five-year financial plan for the PCICS. I hope you will “answer the call” to help secure the financial health and future of our society so that we can continue to advance the care of children with congenital and acquired heart disease throughout the world.
