This past year, the PCICS Board made one of its strategic priorities to increase international presence. To achieve this priority, the connections committee instituted a membership drive that helped increase growth of international representation by adding 45 new members from low middle income countries (LMICs) to our membership. The nursing curriculum was translated into Spanish by Maria Ballestrini from Argentina, also helping us accomplish this goal.
Two PCICS volunteer members spoke at the Asia Pacific Pediatric Cardiac ICU Conference in Bali, Indonesia and were very well received. The future plan is to send volunteers in response to requests from partners to provide speakers for national and regional conferences in LMICs. The next such conference will be in India with IC members serving as invited speakers.
Our committee set goals this year to continue to partner with international colleagues in ventures that will improve the cardiovascular care of children world-wide. We plan to encourage international efforts to develop and support pediatric cardiac surgical services in LMICs through the development of a message board on the PCICS website.
PCICS will be participating with our colleagues from the European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC) in next year’s conference in London. It will be November 20-22nd, 2019 - please save the date!
Finally, the international committee co-chairs are excited to welcome Peter Roeleveld as the newest member of the international committee.
