It was great to see so many colleagues and friends in Miami in December at the 14th Annual International Meeting! We had over 700 attendees and the informal feedback we’ve received has been very positive. We are grateful to the outstanding faculty for their contributions to the program.
Our efforts to increase the research visibility at the meeting were met with a lot of enthusiasm. We had 225 abstract submissions with an 81% acceptance rate. There were three breakout sessions dedicated to new research and quality improvement, in addition to the Top Abstract Presentations (below).
- Top Physician: “Critical Care Delivery and Outcomes after Percutaneous Lymphatic Intervention for Plastic Bronchitis” presented by Aaron Dewitt, MD
- Top Trainee: “Development of a Risk Score for Interstage Death or Transplant After Stage I Palliation for Single Ventricle Heart Disease” by Humera Ahmed, MD
- Top Bedside Nurse and Allied Health Provider: “Plasma Derived and Recombinant Antithrombin III Concentrate Administration in Children: A Comparison of Effectiveness, Clinical Outcomes and Resource Utilization” by A. Lauren Haney, Pharm D, BCPS, PCPPS
- Top APN/Nurse Scientist: “Parenting a Child with Congenital Heart Disease: An Examination of Coping Strategies Utilized by Mothers and Fathers” by Abigail Demianczyk, PhD
Paul Checchia, MD won the Anthony Chang Award and Kathy Mussato, RN, PhD won the Patricia Hickey Award. These awards serve to recognize their many important contributions to the field of pediatric cardiac critical care. Kathy and Paul both gave insightful and engaging presentations. Congratulations to both awardees!!!
The Program Committee is looking ahead to planning the next meeting in London! We are building collaborative relationships with The Pediatric Intensive Care Society (PICS) and the European Pediatric and Neonatal Cardiac Intensive Care group (EPNCIC) for the development of an exciting program in London next year. Be sure to Save the Date: November 20-22, 2019! Please see the PCICS website for more details.
Lindsey Justice DNP, APRN, CPNP-AC and Nikhil Chanani, MD will be the new Program Committee Co-Chairs. We met with Nikhil and Lindsey in Miami to “hand-off” the Manual of Operations, which will facilitate their efforts to lead the Program Committee for the next two years. Lindsey and Nikhil have already begun to partner with Drs. Kate Brown and Duncan Macrae in preparation for the London 2019 meeting.
