The Scientific Review Committee, one of the three PCICS Research Committees is active in supporting the dissemination of pediatric cardiac critical care science. To support a core goal of increasing scientific dissemination at the 2018 PCICS Annual Meeting, the co-chairs worked in concert with the PCICS Program Planning Committee. As a result, this year’s annual PCICS meeting highlighted a number of new scientific sessions. These included focused breakout sessions in the format of oral abstract presentations, quality improvement abstracts in a creative “Shark Tank” format, and invited talks from national quality and research collaboratives to disseminate their best science and impact on practice. A “Rapid-fire” presentation style was also utilized for some oral abstract presentations to succinctly share research findings. In addition, poster viewing was switched from digital monitors to poster board format due to the increasing number of abstract submissions [total 225; with 81% acceptance rate], to optimize the author’s visibility and interaction with conference attendees and walk around poster moderators for Q&A. Despite these changes, all abstracts remained available for viewing via the digital mobile application. The new research sessions were visibly well attended this year. The SRC and Program Planning Committee will review the attendance numbers and evaluation comments from attendees as we plan for science sessions in 2019 at the PCICS London meeting.
